General Questions
How does parking work?
Your designated coordinator will provide a map with directions to your residence hall and where you should park throughout the duration of your program. You must notify your coordinator what the number of parking passes you will need for your event. These passes can be purchased for a designated rate per car per day. USU is not responsible for any damage, theft or parking violations. If you receive a parking ticket while on campus, you are responsible for resolving that ticket.
Does USU have a “camp nurse” on staff?
We do not have a "camp nurse" on staff; however, all our summer coordinators and facilitators are CPR/First Aid certified. USU paramedics will be called for any emergency, and Intermountain InstaCare is located five minutes away from campus.
Are we allowed to tour USU’s campus prior to our camp or conference?
Please! We encourage all groups to visit campus for a tour prior to your event. This is a great way to get a feel for what your event will look like and to see facilities, outdoor space, and classrooms that can work with your event's activities. Contact your event coordinator to set up a campus tour.
Dining Questions
Do you provide supplementary food for participants who have dietary restrictions?
Yes, the USU dining halls and catering have dairy-free, gluten-free and vegetarian options. Options vary for off-campus caterers. Your group is responsible for notifying your coordinator about the number of participants that will need supplementary food options. For participants with more severe restrictions, you will need to work with your coordinator to determine the best way to provide for those participants.
Are participants limited to their servings?
Dining halls are all-you-can-eat buffet style, and participants are only restricted in taking food from the dining halls.
Housing Questions
What amenities are provided in the USU residence halls?
USU Housing provides each participant with a set of sheets, a pillow/pillowcase, and blanket. Participants are welcome to bring their own blankets and pillows if they prefer. USU provides toilet paper only. The group or participant will need to provide towels, soap, and other personal amenities.
Is there air conditioning in the USU residence halls?
The USU residence halls are not equipped with A/C. For this reason groups coming in the later summer months may want to bring their own electric fans.
Will each participant receive their own room key?
Yes, each participant receives their own key cards that gives them access to their residence hall building and their room only. Key cards must be returned to USU Housing at the end of your group's stay. For this reason, some groups provide their youth with lanyards and plastic sleeves to prevent the loss or damage of key cards.
Your group is responsible for making room assignments, and you will receive a roster of your room assignments when you arrive for check-in. Your group's keys given to the group leader prior to check-in, who is then responsible for distributing keys to participants.
What do I do if participants are locked out of their rooms?
If participants are locked out of their rooms, they will need to visit the USU Housing office nearest their residence hall with a chaperone from your group. USU staff cannot accompany participants. The USU Housing staff member will then let you into your room. If it is nighttime and there is no staff member at the USU Housing office, you will need to call the on-call number.
What if my participants lose or damage their keys?
There is a designated fine if participants lose keys or return keys that are damaged beyond repair. For this reason, some groups provide their youth with lanyards and plastic sleeves to prevent the loss or damage of key cards.
Are adults and youth allowed to share a room?
Per USU policy, youth and adult leaders cannot share rooms. We recognize there are extenuating circumstances, such as medical situations, that can be navigated with your coordinator.
How many participants are in one room?
Each residence hall is designed like an apartment, with 3-4 rooms in each apartment. Each room is shared by two participants. Apartments in these residence halls can fit 6-8 participants.
Layouts of residence halls can be found at USU Housing and Residence Life by clicking on Mountain View Tower, Living Learning Community, Richards Hall, Central Suites and Bullen Hall.
Will my group be sharing the residence hall with other groups?
There are times where we will need to fit more than one group in a residence hall to make the most of the space we have on campus. USU Housing tries to avoid placing different groups on the same floor or in the same wing of a residence hall. You will not be sharing rooms with other groups, but your group could be sharing a residence hall.
Can I choose which residence hall I stay in?
You can request a specific residence hall, and we will take that into consideration when making room assignments. Your request is not a guarantee as USU Housing will look at the size of the groups we have and determine which groups will fit best.
Is there a place for us to do laundry?
There are not facilities on campus for groups to do laundry during their event. There are laundromats a short walk from campus if needed.
Are there kitchenettes in the residence halls?
Some of our residence halls do have kitchenettes in the apartments, such as a stove/oven, fridge and microwave. Other residence halls are community style and have a community kitchen on each floor. However, these appliances are disconnected and will not be operating for the use of summer groups.
Where do my youth check-in for their camp or conference?
Check-in locations depend on the conference or camp. Contact Event Services to find out specific locations for your youth's check in building at 435-797-1347 or 435-797-0862.
What time is check-in?
Check-in depends on your specific camp or conference. Contact your designated program coordinator for camp or conference check in time.
Is there a place to store my luggage on the last day when we check out?
Luggage storage is available upon request and will be in designated areas specific to the buildings where you will be staying.
Is there a nighttime monitor on duty?
USU Housing offices have daytime hours, but there is no staff at the desk after hours. Each residence hall has an on-call staff member that your group can call for emergencies or lock-outs. Your group may arrange a nighttime monitor from among your camp staff if you would like.
Activity Questions
While staying on-campus, may particpants use the USU indoor track, weight room, fitness equipment and/or aquatic facilities?
All these facilities exist on USU's campus; however, summer participants are not allowed to use our weight room or tracks. Use of the swimming facilities is allowed only during Swim & Gym, an activity that can be requested by your group.
What activities can my group participate in while at USU?
Visit our Services page to give your group an idea of what you can do on campus from campus tours and seminars to movie nights and outdoor games. You can also work with your coordinator to brainstorm other activities.
How can I transport my group around campus?
All on-campus locations are within general walking distances of eachother. You can work with your coordinator to book the USU shuttle buses and charter buses for transporting groups to and from off-campus locations. Note that these requests must be submitted months in advance.
Can my participants bring skateboards or other sports equipment?
Per USU policy, we do not allow summer groups to bring skateboards. However, there are volleyball standards near the residence halls for participant use outside of camp activities, and there are greenspaces around the residence halls for games such as frisbee or football. Participants can bring soccer balls, basketballs, volleyballs and footballs, but USU staff will have these items available to rent if requested.
On Campus Meeting Space Questions
How do I reserve a classroom or space on campus?
Each camp or conference has an event coordinator to work directly with you to meet your specific requests and needs.
Does reserving a classroom or green space on campus have a cost associated with the reservation?
Basic group packages come with 2-4 classrooms for meeting space. Beyond that, depending on the size of the room or green space and the duration of the time needed, a price will be provided by your designated coordinator.
Registration Questions
How can I register my youth for a particular camp or conference?
Each conference or camp will have a registration system for individual or team registration. You will want to reach out to those individual camps and conferences to make those registrations.
